“There are great career opportunities here”

Victoria Bergfors, an architect and office manager at AFRY, is now poised to start her own business in the industry. Career prospects are good, and she sees nothing but opportunities in running the company from her hometown of Lycksele—known as “The City in Lapland.”
“The pandemic has made it possible to work from anywhere, with the entire country as my workplace,” says 34-year-old Victoria Bergfors, who lives with her husband in the scenic village of Tannsele, just a stone’s throw from downtown Lycksele.

Running a Business in Our Region

“Lapland is a region of endless possibilities”

Christian Ek is originally from Korsholm, a town near Vaasa in Finnish Ostrobothnia. While training to become a game warden back in Finland, he completed his internship in several stints at a hunting and fishing camp in Dorotea. He enjoyed it so much there that he decided to stay in 1997. He quickly landed a summer job as a track laborer on the Inland Railway, and during hunting season, he worked as a hired hunting and fishing guide. For several years, he alternated between various summer jobs and guiding work before starting his first hunting and fishing business in 2007. Since then, Christian has been able to make a living from his own business—a move he doesn’t regret.
