Nature and Leisure Activities

Åsele is located in the heart of the forest region between the mountains and the coast, with forests, lakes, rivers, and marshes just around the corner. Here, you can hike in Björnlandet National Park, fish in one of the municipality’s 20 fishing conservation areas, or explore some of our 58 nature reserves. The bright summer nights and winter snow provide perfect conditions for both outdoor recreation and farming; there are activities year-round, from skiing and snowmobiling to berry picking and hiking.

Culture and Events

Whether you enjoy music, art, or local traditions, there’s something here for you! The Kulturhuset houses a movie theater, a library, and a cultural school, and the Fenix youth center is a gathering place for young people. The highlight of the summer is the Åsele Market, Norrland’s largest folk festival with over 200 vendors spread over four days. You can also explore art trails, historic cultural sites, and local village festivals that bring life and a sense of community to the area year-round.
