A little closer, a little warmer

When we say “Welcome to Sorsele!” or “Love Sorsele!”, by “Sorsele” we mean all the places within the geographic area that makes up the municipality of Sorsele—not just the town of Sorsele itself.

However, there aren’t that many of us living here. In terms of population, it’s one of the smallest places in Sweden, right in the heart of Lapland. That has its pros and cons, but among the pros is that the heart of Sorsele is the people who live here—all the villages and their residents—the authenticity and the sense of community. It’s a place to fall in love with and people to care about. 

Generous Gargnäs, dynamic Blattnicksele, and warm-hearted Ammarnäs are, in a sense, regional hubs in their own right—centers of the “do-it-yourself” spirit and strong determination, stretching from the mountains in the west to the sky and water in the southeast. These are also designated service centers where certain municipal services are to be available on site.

So, what does it mean when we say that “Sorsele” is a small name for a big place? Well, Sorsele is so much more than just the organization, government agency, and employer known as Sorsele Municipality—or the small town of Sorsele itself. 

Sorsele is also enormous in area and could accommodate the municipalities of Uppsala, Malmö, Stockholm, and Gothenburg within its borders; it features everything from mountains to forested landscapes. The freely flowing Vindelälven River and the untouched mountain regions. The geography is, quite simply, vast. In Sorsele, you’ll find open spaces, roadless wilderness, and magnificent nature.
