Storuman is where people and roads meet. This is where you’ll find the gateway to the mountain world and the key to the Heart of Lapland. Storuman is beautifully nestled in the heart of majestic forest landscapes and magnificent mountain regions.

Communications

Geographically, Storuman is strategically located at the crossroads of two European highways—the E12 and E45—and two rail lines. Storuman and Hemavan Tärnaby have good transportation links to the Norrland coast, Northern Norway, and the southern parts of Sweden. This includes flights from Arlanda to Hemavan.

An educational upbringing in a safe environment

Here, you have the opportunity to study no matter where you are in life. We offer elementary school, high school, the Learning Center, SFI, and folk high school. Through the Learning Center, you have ample opportunities to get help while studying remotely toward a university degree, for example. We actively work to provide educational programs at all levels that align with the municipality’s labor market and skill needs.

To provide good conditions for living and working throughout the municipality, we offer child care at six different locations: Gunnarn, Stensele, Storuman, Slussfors, Tärnaby, and Hemavan. These locations offer preschool, educational care, and after-school care. Our goal is for all children to have a safe and enriching upbringing.

Race down the slopes that have produced world-class stars

There’s plenty to see and do in our municipality, whether you’re just stopping by for the day or staying for several days. If you live in the municipality, there are many hidden gems right around the corner.

We have a rich natural environment here. Among other things, you can hike one of the trails, go fishing, enjoy a good cup of coffee at one of our cafés, or take a snowmobile ride up into the bare mountains.

If you like skiing, you can challenge yourself on one of our great ski trails, where superstars like Björn Ferry have built up their endurance.

If you enjoy hurtling down a ski run, you can zoom down the slopes that have produced world-class stars such as Ingemar Stenmark, Anja Pärson, and Jens Byggmark.

Activities and Events

The municipality is bustling with activities, and community organizations are deeply rooted here. Volunteer efforts play an important role in the municipality’s development, and there are approximately 130 different organizations here. The municipality’s website features an events calendar that is updated regularly.

Some of the municipality's major events are the Storumandagarna and the dance gala, which are always held the weekend after Midsummer.
