Culture and Commitment
Since 1642 we have had a Winter Market outside the church in Arjeplog. It was Queen Kristina who decided that a market would be held here, and that a church, Sofia Magdalena, would be built, on the site where today’s church stands. The beautiful, pink-colored dirty-covered church gained its present formation in the late 19th century.
On the other side of the square, just a stone’s throw away, lies the Silver Museum, the culmination of the Doctor Einar Wallquists collections. The museum was opened in 1965, filled with the cultural objects he so insightfully collected during his long career.
Today, the museum is also an office for INSARC, the Institute for Arctic Landscaping.
