There is a vibrant community life here, with everything from skiing to floorball. We have a renowned arm-wrestling club that has won several world championships. Every summer, a dedicated soccer club is up and running. We have two cross-country ski trails in town, two disc golf courses, well-trodden trails leading up to mountain peaks with sweeping views, picnic areas set in the most beautiful natural surroundings, and two-kilometer-long boardwalks over flowing water. There’s always something for the whole family to do here.

Culture and Engagement

Since 1642, we have held a winter market outside the church in Arjeplog. It was Queen Christina who decided that a market should be held here and that a church, Sofia Magdalena, should be built on the site where today’s church stands. The beautiful, pink-colored, shingle-roofed church took on its current appearance in the late 1800s.

On the other side of the square, just a stone’s throw away, lies the Silver Museum, the culmination of Dr. Einar Wallquist’s collections. The museum opened in 1965, filled with the cultural artifacts he had so insightfully collected throughout his long career.

Today, the museum also serves as the office for INSARC, the Institute for Arctic Landscape Research.
